ABOUT ME

Hi, my name is Brian Fox and I own Fox Sawmill & Custom Designs. My business has been around for four years now and I’m located in Clarion, PA. Every day I learn something new, whether it be a new technique or something different I can do.  I actually got started in this business as a hobby. The business started out as a sawmill and I grew into the art of chainsaw carving from there. Now I can pretty much make anything you dream up. My showroom is actually an old church. When I saw it go up for sale I knew it would be ideal for me because I needed a space with high ceilings for all of my lumber. So I purchased that and built my carport for my sawmill and it’s pretty neat that I get to call that “my office”.

Born and raised in the Clarion, PA area I have always been able to call this place home! I have always been an artistic person, I studied art for three years at Kiski Prep back in 1993-1996. There I worked with pottery, clay sculptures, stained glass, and photography. After leaving there I attended a couple other colleges before settling back down in Clarion. When I first moved back to the area I started doing land surveying with my father. Working as a surveyor you learn a lot about trees. A lot of time tree lines are represent property lines. Through doing that everyday for 22 years I became pretty familiar with all different types of trees. This job also allowed me to meet a number of foresters as well.

Back in July of 2015 I purchased my first sawmill because I was doing work on my house and I needed some rough cut lumber and I couldn’t find any. So I figured I had a lot of projects to do that it would be worth it to purchase a sawmill for myself. Next thing you know everyone I knew had a need for custom lumber and it just spiraled from there. After two years of using that sawmill it came to the point that I needed something more than the basic one I purchased. So that is when I purchased my commerical sawmill (LT 50 Super Wide). This is the one I currently use.

After purhasing my commerical sawmill I started going to carving shows. There I watched and learned from other chainsaw artists and it inspired me to give it a try myself. I figured with my artistic background that it would be something fun to do. Fast forward to today and I love what I do. Whether it’s in my showroom or at an event each day I get to go create something that someone is going to use as their own custom piece in their home or even be giving as a gift. It’s really exciting when you think of it, and I look forward to many more years of it!
